POSITION:    Public Education Officer (1)

DUTY STATION:    Western Area



Under the supervision of the Western Region Commissioner, Executive Secretary and Managers, the duties of the Public Education Officer shall include the following:


            1.    Lead the development of public information programmes and activities that will promote democratic rights and civic values;

            2.    Coordinate and conduct activities and programmes that will educate the public and community partners about constitutional rights and



            3.    Maintain and update files, extract, articles and other relevant information pertaining to the NCD;


            4.    Provide relevant information in conducting research on issues relating to the work of the Commission;


            5.    Prepare monthly activity reports on regional programmes;


            6.    Assist in the preparation of Annual NCD progress report;





  • Bachelors Degree in Communication, Education, Public Relations, International Relations, Government or marketing from an accredited College or university combined with additional professional training. (Certificates in relevant areas) and five years relevant working experience.


  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field or area can be an advantage.


  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience performing public relations activities is required;


  • Knowledge of public education methods and procedures, varied learner development levels;


  • Knowledge of community public service groups and non-governmental organizations is preferred;


  • Demonstrated knowledge of the governance environment in Sierra Leone;


  • Community and media relations knowledge is an asset;


  • Working knowledge of Micro-soft word for Windows, Power Point, Excel, Mail etc;


  • Effectively interact and be sensitive to the needs of co-workers, citizens and public agencies and private business representatives;


  • Perform independently and as part of a team and meet deadlines.


  • Speak articulately and confidently to diverse and varying sizes of audiences;


  • Write clearly and concisely;


  • Plan, implement and evaluate programmes;


  • Handle and operate multi-media equipments;


  • Provide a high level of customer services at all times;


AGE:   Applicant must be between 25 – 45 years
